Description

This is an open access book.
This year, the 6th International Conference of Law Reform (INCLAR) presents the theme Law, Conflict, and Humanity: Toward Sustainable Justice and Resilient Societies in response to the increasingly complex global challenges posed by ongoing armed conflicts around the world. These conflicts, such as the wars between Israel and Palestine and Russia and Ukraine, are not only threatening political and economic stability but are also causing severe humanitarian impacts. The theme aims to explore the role of law in maintaining peace, protecting human rights, and fostering sustainable justice in the face of growing global tensions and violence. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which has spanned several decades, highlights the deep-rooted and complex nature of territorial, identity, and religious struggles. The recent escalation of violence has further exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in the region, leading to thousands of casualties and displaced persons. This situation challenges the effectiveness of international law in addressing human rights violations and war crimes that continue amid high international political tensions. Similarly, the war between Russia and Ukraine, which began in 2022, has far-reaching implications for global political and economic stability. Beyond the threat to Ukraine's sovereignty, this war has caused the largest refugee crisis in Europe since World War II, putting immense pressure on international humanitarian law to respond to widespread violations of human rights and humanitarian principles. The conflict also reveals the complex geopolitical dynamics involving multiple significant states with competing interests. In this context, the 6th INCLAR seeks to provide a platform for academics, legal practitioners, policymakers, and humanitarian activists to discuss the role of law in resolving armed conflicts, protecting human rights, and ensuring social justice under extreme pressure. This conference serves as a crucial forum for analyzing the legal challenges posed by conflict situations and developing law-based solutions that prioritize humanity amidst crises. Furthermore, the theme Law, Conflict, and Humanity: Toward Sustainable Justice and Resilient Societies underscores the urgent need to strengthen the international legal system to address the emerging challenges of large-scale conflicts. In the face of threats to global peace, it is crucial to ensure that international law can continue to uphold justice, safeguard human rights, and build resilient societies that not only survive conflict but also work towards lasting peace. This conference is expected to produce comprehensive policy recommendations aimed at reinforcing the international legal 6th International Conference on Law Reform (INCLAR) 3 framework, particularly focusing on the protection of civil rights during conflicts, ensuring accountability for war crimes, and supporting mediation and peace efforts in an increasingly complex global landscape.
