Roman Surzhenko was born in 1972 in Taganrog, Russia. In 1994, he earned his university degree and, for the next several years, worked as an illustrator for a variety of Russian publishers. It was in 2001 that he turned toward the comics world, joining a collective called "Aventures Magnifiques." By 2003, he had begun working for Moscow publisher Advance-Press, while working in parallel on cartoon animation projects and magazine design. Finally, in 2010, noticed by Humanoïdes Associés, Surzhenko made his entrance into the French market, contributing to the series "La Meute de l'enfer," written by Philippe Thirault. He then worked briefly with publisher Soleil before joining Le Lombard in 2011, illustrating "Louve" ("Wolfcub") a spin-off series based on the legendary "Thorgal." Alongside author Yann, Surzhenko would go on to illustrate two other "World of Thorgal" series, "Thorgal - The Early Years" and "Kriss of Valnor" (Europe Comics/Cinebook in English).
